50th Anniversary

Avan and Marlys have a beautiful family who gathered in town together to help them celebrate their 50th anniversary the week of Thanksgiving. We got some great pictures right in their yard and thankfully the weather cooperated with us. Later the family surprised them with their very own edition of "This is Your Life" complete with pictures, stories and mementos. Marlys said Avan and her were so completely surprised and blessed by how sneaky the family had been to pull the whole thing off and it made their anniversary very special.
What a great testimony of a beautiful marriage and life together. Congratulations, Marlys and Avan.

field trip to Casa Bonita---a little slice of Mexico

If you grew up in Colorado, chances are you have been to Casa Bonita. This place is not known for good food. In fact it is quite infamous for having less than good food. However, the sopaipillas are like warm pillows from heaven. And as long as you have your flag raised the staff will keep bringing more until you've had too many.
If you haven't been you better go. And if you have kids and haven't taken them, then shame on you. I have seen the rumors that they are soon to close their doors forever. I hope they aren't true, but if they are you better get on over. Kitschy 70's decor, a mariachi band, two arcades, a magic theatre, an old timey photo studio, Black Bart's Cave (scary), cliff diving, exciting gunfights, caricature artists, cowboys, pirates, a gorilla, and all you can eat sopaipillas. What's not to love?
Our little home school group enjoyed a private tour before the lunch crowd appeared. We had fun and I took a lot of pictures.

some more roadside fun

Perhaps you have seen the cloud like sculptures on your way to the DIA airport. I have always thought it would be awesome to take some pictures there and I finally got up the nerve, just barely. Randy laughed at me when I told him I was afraid of being told off by a police officer. No police officer, but we did see a wild coyote. I thought, "Oh no, something I didn't even think of worrying about!" He glanced at us for a bit and then sauntered away minding his own business.
